Benefits of putting ewes to a terminal sire

August 11, 2011

For every 100 ewes put to a terminal sire, we can expect

  • an extra 3 to 6 (or even more) lambs due to increased survival, and
  • an extra 1 – 1.5 kg of carcase weight at the same age

The terminal sire must be from a flock that has been selected for performance as it is no good relying on hybrid vigour to make up for a failure to follow good breeding practices.
